Some of our staff members have industry experience going back almost 40 years. Most have between 7 and 25 years experience. One or more members of our staff hold each of the following industry certifications:

Our Principal

Chris Donatelli
Founder and President

In founding Chris Donatelli Builders, Chris Donatelli combined his twin passions for quality remodeling and helping homeowners solve problems. Born and raised in San Jose, Chris started working in the remodeling field part-time while still in high school, working for his father’s remodeling firm. After college, in 1970, Chris started working in the industry full-time as a carpenter and began working his way up the ranks. Chris finds Building Science and Home Performance, two important underlying disciplines of Green Building, extremely interesting and has been studying them for some time through the California Building Performance Contractors Association.

Chris has earned Certified Remodeler (CR) and Certified Kitchen and Bath Remodeler (CKBR) certifications from the National Association of the Remodeling Industry (NARI). He is also a Certified Green Building Professional (CGBP) and a Certified GreenPoint Rater. He enjoys teaching other professionals in the industry what he knows about Green Building and other topics. He was a founding member of the area’s NARI chapter and has been very active in it, even serving as president for two years.

By 1994, Chris was in a strong position to start a new general contracting company. He partnered with Tony Castillo to form Donatelli Castillo Builders. This successful partnership provided quality building for 15 years. In September of 2008, Chris became the sole owner of the company. Aside from the name change, the company remains identical in its mission to achieve the highest level of quality and create wholly satisfied homeowners.

Highly Qualified Staff

We carefully select all of our staff members for their experience, skill, knowledge, and ability to deliver quality work and a positive remodeling experience to our clients. They are among the best in the area, and some have special industry certifications. Additionally, all of our staff members, no matter how experienced or skilled they are, receive ongoing training to keep up with changes in building technology and improvements in our systems and to learn new techniques and procedures. In fact, our training program, which we call the DCB Way, has been written about in the trade press as an excellent example of something that every remodeling company should do, but that most do not.

The Best Specialty Trade Contractors

While not staff members, we select and monitor our specialty trade contractors with as much care and attention as we do our staff members. We seek to hire only the best and most reliable. We like to work with those who have proven themselves and develop working relationships with them, which makes projects run smoother. We also require that our specialty trade contractors meet Chris Donatelli Builders’ high standards of quality and service and that they maintain licenses, insurance, and bonding as may be appropriate.
